Path-Aware Satellite Routing for Optimized QoS in Next-Generation Connectivity
Researcher in Control Systems and Artificial Intelligence at Sapienza University of Rome
About
This project cooperation addresses the growing demand for intelligent, high-performance satellite communication networks that can dynamically adapt to heterogeneous requirements and usage scenarios. By focusing on path-aware routing, the initiative aims to optimize data flows across satellite constellations and hybrid infrastructures, enhancing end-user Quality of Service (QoS) in environments where terrestrial connectivity is limited or unavailable.
The cooperation brings in the Network Control Laboratory's extensive experience in the design and deployment of AI-based decision support systems across more than 40 European Commission and ESA-funded projects. With a strong foundation in network control theory and real-time optimization, the group contributes cutting-edge methodologies to manage and optimize traffic paths based on application-specific constraints such as latency, throughput, reliability, and energy efficiency.
Use cases include:
-
Earth Observation: Efficient and timely delivery of high-volume observation data for climate monitoring, disaster management, and environmental protection.
-
Massive IoT in Remote Areas: Reliable and scalable connectivity for sensor networks used in agriculture, wildlife tracking, or infrastructure monitoring.
The cooperation is open to industrial and academic partners aiming to pioneer future-ready satellite communication systems that are path-aware, QoS-driven, and capable of supporting a wide spectrum of verticals.
