About
At ICS, we specialize in addressing complex surface engineering challenges through advanced thin-film and coating technologies. Using vacuum plasma processes, including Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) and Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (PECVD), we deliver tailor-made coatings on virtually any substrate, from metals, polymers, ceramics, glass, and carbon composites to materials with challenging chemistries. Our capability spans components a few nanometres in size to structures several meters across, offering unmatched flexibility for customers across industries such as automotive, defence, energy, jewellery, and additive manufacturing. Our coatings include pure metals, oxides, nitrides, carbides, alloys, and functional polymers, and we combine this with proprietary tools such as Virtual Coater, a simulation platform that allows manufacturers to refine plasma coating processes before physical trials, reducing time, cost, and material waste. This combination of scientific precision, industrial scalability, and predictive process control differentiates ICS from competitors, enabling customers to achieve longer-lasting, higher-performing, or more energy-efficient products. ICS has successfully applied these capabilities in numerous projects: in defense, we deposited aluminium coatings on nano-thermite propellants (WO₃), achieving an approximate 50% increase in projectile velocity compared to uncoated material; in energy, we developed advanced coatings for Li-ion batteries that improve compatibility with water-based electrode processes, and are pioneering ultra-fast metallic lithium deposition for next-generation solid-state batteries; in additive manufacturing, we applied non-stick coatings to stainless steel powders, reducing the cohesive index by approximately 38%, preventing printer jams and optimizing the printing process. Our unique approach lies in customizing coatings to each customer’s application, combining material science, process innovation, and industrial-scale capability. By enabling multi-layered, functionalised, and high-performance surfaces, ICS enhances the current and next generation of products, providing measurable value such as improved wear resistance, reduced maintenance, and enhanced operational efficiency.
