About

The invention relates to an integrated process for reducing the polluting potential of waste, such as filter ash resulting from the incineration of hazardous medical waste and carbide sludge resulting from acetylene preparation. According to the invention, the process consists in extracting pollutants, such as chlorides, sulphates and heavy metals, by washing the filter ash with an acid solution in a tank (1) with stirring means, the resulting mixture being separated by a nutsche filter (3) into a solid fraction, which in a second stage is mixed in a mixer (11) together with the solid part of the carbide sludge waste resulting from the filtration, on the nutsche filter (8), of the waste homogenized in a tank (6) with stirring means and with other building material of the cement and sand type, resulting in an inert material, cast in various moulds (13), and a liquid fraction of the washing solution which is collected in a storage tank (5), and which, in a third stage of the process, is combined, in a tank (16) with stirring means, with the liquid fraction of the carbide sludge waste, which was temporarily stored in a tank (10), after which the resulting mixture is filtered in the nutsche filter (18), the resulting precipitate being stored in the basin (19) in order to recover the valuable metals by known chemical processes, the resulting filtrate being a residual water whose quality parameters range within the value limits imposed by the law in force for sewage discharge.
