About
CELABOR is a research centre based in Wallonia with a main mission of developing environmental friendly processes that target industrial sectors in biomass extraction, food, packaging, environment and textile. During the last height years, Celabor is highly actively involved in EU-funded projects in collaboration with an important network of industrial and academic partners across Europe. In total, 23 European projects (BBI-JU, CBE-JU, H2020 and Horizon Europe) and 4 Interreg projects (North West Europe, Grande Région, France-Wallonie-Vaanderen) around the topic of biomass valorisation have been executed with the participation of Celabor. This allowed Celabor to truly consolidate its expertise and know-how, and to constitute nowadays a unique Biomass Valorization Platform in Wallonia, made up of cutting-edge technologies allowing an environmentally friendly extraction and application approaches.
Green Extraction technologies such as Sub-critical Water, Supercritical CO2, Ultrasounds, Microwaves and Pulsed Electric fields are applied in Both lab & Pilot Scales in a Atex-approved zone. The application of high-throughput DSP, analytical techniques and biological activities are performed adequately.
The “Materials” department mainly focuses on the green chemical modification of bio-based building blocks (cellulose, lignin, chitin, keratin, etc.) to produce sustainable materials with tailored properties for various applications, including packaging, textiles, construction, and agriculture.
The "Food" department focuses on food quality control and physico-chemical characterization with advanced analytical platform, and develops innovative, natural, nutritious products, specifically plant-based and prebiotics applications, using gentle, sustainable processes that preserve functionality and support clean-label solutions.
