Sustainable tertiary wastewater technology

Co-founder, CEO and Director at Daphne Water Solutions

Birmingham, United Kingdom

About

Daphne Water Solutions (DWS) developed a patented, nature-based tertiary wastewater treatment technology that enables safe water reuse while supporting net-zero and regulatory compliance goals. The system uses Daphnia, a naturally occurring freshwater organism, as a living biofilter to remove persistent and mobile pollutants, including PFAS, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, nutrients, and microplastics, from treated wastewater.

Unlike conventional advanced treatments, the DWS technology operates without external energy input or chemical dosing and requires no additional land footprint. It is compact, modular, and designed for in-line or retrofit deployment within existing treatment works, allowing utilities to upgrade performance without major capital investment or operational complexity.

The technology has reached early commercial stage, with live installations operating in the UK and internationally. Independent life-cycle assessment demonstrates a negligible carbon footprint, alongside reductions in freshwater ecotoxicity and eutrophication potential.

DWS is seeking partnerships with water and wastewater utilities, industrial water users, technology integrators, and investors interested in scalable, low-carbon solutions for advanced wastewater treatment, regulatory compliance, and water reuse.
