Applied Geologist and Associate Professor at UPM specialized in petrography, concrete durability and recycled aggregates. Interested in circular construction materials, digital characterization and European collaborations in sustainable infrastructure.
The Universidad Poliécnica de Madrid (UPM)has the double recognition of Campus of International Excellence, in reference to the quality of its research and teaching activity. At the UPM, we pride ourselves on being a leading institution in engineering and technology education. Our commitment to innovation and research drives us to prepare future leaders in various fields through hands-on learning and collaboration with industry partners. We actively engage with businesses to create synergies that foster knowledge exchange and technological advancement. Together, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient future through multidisciplinary approaches and cutting-edge solutions. The UPM is also the coordinator of the European University Alliance EELISA, a project that integrates ten leading European universities from eight different countries.
I am an Applied Geologist and Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering: Construction of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain. My research focuses on the characterization, durability and long-term performance of construction materials, combining geological expertise with civil engineering applications.
My areas of expertise include applied petrography, aggregate characterization, alkali–silica reaction (ASR), concrete durability, recycled aggregates and the diagnosis of deterioration processes affecting concrete infrastructure. I have extensive experience in mineralogical and petrographic characterization, image-based analysis and the assessment of material performance in service conditions.
I am particularly interested in circular construction materials, construction and demolition waste valorisation, sustainable infrastructure and the development of innovative methodologies for material characterization and durability assessment. More recently, I have been exploring digital approaches for the analysis of construction materials, including image analysis and automated characterization techniques.
Through the RIVCircular network, I am interested in establishing collaborations with universities, research centres, technology providers and industrial partners working on circular economy solutions for the construction sector, recycled materials, digitalization and sustainable infrastructure.
