Frederick Schaefer is the Principal Innovator and Chairman of Ecostrada, leading the development of nature-based environmental infrastructure that reduces noise, captures air and road pollution, and supports more sustainable transportation corridors.
Ecostrada develops multifunctional environmental infrastructure that transforms waste streams and underutilized infrastructure assets into active environmental solutions. The system combines recycled construction and demolition materials, recovered steel, concrete aggregates, forestry by-products and biomass to create modular environmental structures capable of capturing particulate pollution and microplastics, enhancing biodiversity, managing stormwater and improving urban environments. A key innovation is the ability to upgrade and repurpose existing infrastructure, including noise barriers and roadside structures, extending their service life while adding entirely new environmental functions. This significantly reduces the need for virgin materials and lowers the environmental footprint of infrastructure investments. By combining circular materials, infrastructure renewal and active environmental remediation, Ecostrada aims to establish a new category of circular environmental infrastructure for transport corridors and urban spaces.
Seeking partners in construction, recycling, research, AI/IoT and public infrastructure to develop and validate circular environmental infrastructure using CDW, recycled materials and biomass for pollution capture, biodiversity and climate resilience.
