Ecostrada seeks partners in Circular Environmental Infrastructure Using Construction & Demolition Waste, Biomass and Nature-Based Solutions
About
Our solution transforms construction and demolition waste (CDW), recycled steel, crushed concrete, excavated rock, forestry by-products and biomass into modular environmental structures that deliver multiple environmental functions within a single infrastructure system, and can be added to existing constructions to meet future requirements and functionality, such as noisebarriers.
Unlike conventional noise barriers, Ecostrada's concept combines circular material utilisation, pollution capture, biodiversity enhancement, stormwater management and infrastructure renewal. The system can be installed as new infrastructure or used to upgrade and extend the lifetime of existing roadside barriers, retaining walls and other infrastructure assets.
The barriers are designed to capture road dust, particulate matter and microplastics close to the source while improving local air quality and creating green habitats. Contaminated biomass can be periodically replaced and processed through controlled recovery systems, supporting circular material flows.
Through this approach, Ecostrada contributes directly to EU priorities related to circular economy, climate adaptation, pollution reduction, biodiversity restoration and sustainable infrastructure.
Within RIV Circular, we are particularly interested in Topic 1 (Construction and Demolition Waste) and Topic 5 (Digital Solutions).
Potential R&D activities include:
• Integration of recycled steel, concrete aggregates and construction waste into environmental infrastructure.
• Development of design-for-disassembly solutions that enable reuse, relocation and recycling.
• Validation of structural performance, durability and environmental benefits.
• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and circularity metrics.
• Development of AI and IoT-based monitoring systems for particulate matter, microplastics and environmental performance.
• Digital Product Passports and traceability systems for circular infrastructure materials.
Ecostrada will contribute as technology owner, principal innovator and pilot host, providing access to real-world demonstration sites linked to Norwegian transport infrastructure and urban environments.
We are seeking partners from participating RIV Circular regions, particularly France (Hauts-de-France) and Spain (Extremadura), including:
• Construction, demolition and recycling companies.
• Material suppliers and circular economy operators.
• Infrastructure contractors and engineering consultancies.
• Universities and research institutions.
• AI, IoT and digital technology providers.
• Public authorities and municipalities.
• NGOs, industry associations and green finance actors.
The objective is to develop scalable circular infrastructure solutions that transform waste streams into environmental assets while supporting cleaner, healthier and more resilient communities across Europe.
