Development of low-carbon cement-based adhesives using construction and industrial waste for circular and sustainable building material
Director of Eurecat Madrid en Eurecat Centro Tecnológico
Madrid, España
Acerca de
The project focuses on the development of low-impact cement-based adhesives through the incorporation of industrial and construction waste, aiming to reduce carbon footprint and the use of virgin raw materials. While significant progress has been made in the use of recycled materials in mortars and concretes, there is still a clear gap in their application to ceramic tile adhesives, which require high technical performance and strict regulatory compliance. The project will develop and optimize new adhesive formulations with reduced Portland cement and natural aggregates, replacing them with selected recycled materials and by-products. It will include the evaluation of physical, mechanical, rheological, and durability properties, as well as environmental impact assessment. The expected outcome is the validation of sustainable adhesive solutions that maintain performance while enhancing circularity, contributing to more sustainable construction practices.
The consortium will cover the full value chain, including a waste treatment partner, Eurecat as the R&D and formulation lead, and a certified testing partner to ensure validation and compliance with industry standards.
