Christian Education in Ukraine: Rebuilding Schools, Restoring Hope, and Shaping the Next Generation

The Calling

As co-founders of Spirit Shines Christian Ministries, Dr. Ailin Iwan and I have been deeply moved by what we have heard from our Ukrainian friends here in San Francisco. Their stories have brought into sharp focus the devastating destruction of schools, the displacement of families, and the profound emotional wounds carried by a generation of children.

Yet our response is not simply grief. We believe this is a time to listen, learn, build relationships, and discern how we might contribute positively to Ukraine's future.

We believe every child deserves a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment in which to learn and flourish. Education is essential not only for academic development, but also for emotional well-being, character, identity, faith, and hope. While online and blended learning have sustained educational continuity during the war, Ukraine will ultimately need to restore and rebuild physical schools — places where children can learn together, develop friendships, experience belonging, and find stability.

We hope that our combined experience in software (educational leadership and Christian ministry) and hardware (architecture, building design, and sustainable environments since the founders of SSCM are also the founders of Philia Earth) will contribute to rebuild schools in Ukraine through collaborating with local and International Christian NGOs and Architects.

Purpose to participate in ReBuild Ukraine 2026

Our visit to Rebuild Ukrain 2026 is to learn and build partnership from Ukrainian Christian institutions, educators, architects, planners, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders who have already demonstrated extraordinary resilience.

We are here to understand current educational needs, discover existing initiatives, build relationships, and discern where our experience and resources might be useful.
