Canadian Underground Infrastructure Innovation Centre (CUIIC)
About
The Construction Innovation Centre (CIC) at University of Alberta can support Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts in several key ways:
-
By deploying its expertise in modular/off-site construction and efficient building systems (a strength of the centre) to accelerate reconstruction of homes, schools and infrastructure.
-
Through research on resilient materials (e.g., steel, masonry) and durable infrastructure systems that can better withstand conflict-related damage and harsh conditions.
-
By training the next generation of construction and engineering professionals — skills which Ukraine will need in large supply to rebuild safely, efficiently and sustainably.
-
By providing a collaborative platform linking academia, industry and government, which can be used to partner on international reconstruction projects, transfer innovation, and adapt solutions to the Ukrainian context.
