Carlo Matera

I am Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Milan, Italy. My research focuses on the design and synthesis of bioactive small molecules and chemical tools to interrogate and modulate biological systems.

My current interests include targeted protein degradation, photopharmacology, photoswitchable molecules and innovative therapeutic modalities. Our research combines molecular design and organic synthesis with biological validation, often through interdisciplinary collaborations.

Within MSCA Doctoral Networks, I am particularly interested in collaborations where our group can contribute molecular design and synthesis, ligand development and optimisation, chemical probes and degraders, light-responsive compounds, and advanced training in medicinal chemistry.

I am open both to joining MSCA-DN consortia already under development as a beneficiary/doctoral candidate host and to developing new interdisciplinary networks with academic, clinical and industrial partners.
