My research has taken me across arctic, temperate and tropical ecosystems to analyse the human role in environmental changes. I am active out in the field, in the laboratory, at the computer, and through publications, videos and outreach.
Knowledge Core GmbH is an environmental change research group active out in the field, in the laboratory, at the computer, and through dissemination and outreach. We partner on project proposals, implementation and fulfilment, training of highly-qualified personnel in Africa, Europe and North America. Our approach combines quantitative and qualitative research methods using multiple lines of evidence from Geosciences, Archaeology, Social Sciences and Humanities, to better understand drivers of environmental change and potential solutions. Knowledge Core GmbH (LLC) develops laboratory equipment, subsampling and portioning systems, and handheld tools to achieve precise subsample volumes of sediments and soils. Preparing samples is a crucial step for generating the data to characterise our ecosystems, establish environmental baselines, and to monitor the impacts of land use and climate changes. http://www.real-project.eu/kcore/ http://www.real-project.eu/paleolabtools/
I have 20 years experience in environmental change research in North America, Europe and Africa. My specialty is fire ecology and changing fire regimes in forested and grassland ecosystems and the impacts on soil, wetlands and freshwater.
My >70 publications include 19 first-authored articles and co-authorships in Nature, Ecology Letters, and Quaternary Research. The full lists are available:
New hardware tools are needed for commonplace geoscientific analyses to increase the speed of data collection, improve ergonomics, interoperability, and adequate QA/QC documentation for reporting.

For >20 years, I have studied climate change, vegetation patterns, fire regimes and other landscape disturbances and the role of people in modifying these long term processes using approaches from geology, ecology, archaeology, history and geography.
