Örebro University is a modern university with a broad scientific base and the ambition of building research and education for the future. It is one of Sweden’s most expansive universities with 15,000 students, 490 doctoral students, and 1,600 staff. ORU offers 85-degree programs, with a total of 610 single courses across 8 Schools. ORU offers many attractive professional degree programmes in, among others, medicine, psychology, law, and engineering.
I am an Associate Professor (Docent) with 17 years of experience studying immune responses in intestinal and cardiovascular inflammation. I earned my PhD in Medicine from Örebro University (2013) and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Glasgow. I joined the Cardiovascular Research Centre (CVRC), Örebro University, as a Senior Researcher in 2016, received a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in 2019, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. I founded the Immunoprofiling of Inflammation (iPi) group in 2020 and have published 28 peer-reviewed papers. In 2021, I was selected for the Society for Mucosal Immunology (SMI) mentorship program for young investigators (two years).
Research in my group focuses on profiling immune cell phenotypes and functional responses in human vascular and intestinal inflammation. We are investigating how interference of molecules associated with innate and adaptive immunity can resolve inflammation in atherosclerosis.
We are also exploring interactions between gut microbiota, gut microbial derived dietary metabolites (TMAO) and immune responses and how these responses are linked to pathogenesis, disease profile and quality of life in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
