Jailton de Souza-Ferrari is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) in João Pessoa (Brazilian Northeast). In 2007, he received his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in Salvador (Brazilian Northeast). He has 15 years of teaching and research experience in higher education. Dr. Souza-Ferrari's research interests include mainly the development of new tools (reagents, ligands, and metallic complexes based on Meldrum acid) for pure and applied chemical synthesis, as well as the modification of bioactive natural products (via late-stage derivatization and/or molecular hybridization) in the search for compounds with, but not limited to, anticancer, antimicrobial, and antiangiogenic activities.
