Hull, United Kingdom

The University of Hull is a research-led institution located in the historic city of Hull, East Yorkshire, at the heart of the UK’s Humber region. Our mission is to tackle global challenges through transformative, interdisciplinary research that delivers real-world impact. From climate change and renewable energy to health innovation, social justice, and digital technologies, our research addresses issues that matter locally, nationally, and internationally. Hull’s strategic location on the Humber estuary—a hub for renewable energy and maritime industries—positions us as a key player in advancing sustainability and economic growth. We collaborate with partners across the globe to drive innovation, inform policy, and create solutions for a fairer, more sustainable future. As a member of international research networks and a leader in knowledge exchange, the University of Hull empowers researchers to think beyond boundaries and shape change worldwide. Our commitment to excellence ensures that our discoveries not only enrich academic understanding but also improve lives and communities across the globe.

About me

During my 25 years in UK higher education, I have developed substantial experience in international strategy and policy development, research development and relationship management. During my tenure at the University of Hull I have been responsible for developing and maintaining effective global collaborations with universities, diplomatic missions, governments and other relevant organisations to ensure the University achieves reputation-build, multi-layered alliances and academic synergy internationally. I also provide counsel to the University’s leadership on global issues affecting its business, and broker co-ordination of international effort across faculties and multiple professional teams.

Currently based in the University's Research and Innovation Development Team, I am tasked with helping internationalize the University of Hull's research activity. This includes the development of strategic alliances for new and ongoing collaboration, coordinating substantive engagement activity, including conferences, joint workshops, and research interest groups.

I oversee the University’s engagement with international networks, including the Utrecht Network as well as the University of the Arctic and GU8 Consortium, a global network of port-based universities which I manage as its Secretary General.

I also lead strategic projects, including development, implementation and delivery of funds to pump-prime research collaboration with strategic partners overseas. Plus, I work with faculties in developing international relationships, building research networks, targeting funding opportunities and promoting staff mobility and training.
