Research on neurophysiology, plasticity and pathophysiology of the cerebellum in mouse models of multiple sclerosis (EAE), autism (Fmr1-KO), ataxias (SCAs)

My organisation

The University of Genoa (UniGe), founded in 1481, is one of the oldest universities in Europe and one of the major cultural and scientific resources in the Mediterranean and northwestern Italy. With over 36,000 students and 168 courses of study, distributed between the Genoa campus and the teaching centers in Imperia, Savona, and La Spezia, the University, the only one in Liguria, is a recognized institution with strong roots in the local area, promoting scientific progress and the values of civil society. It has strong and long-lasting collaborations with local institutions such as San Martino Research Hospital, Gaslini Research Children Hospital, the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the National Research Council (CNR), as well as many national and international collaborations. Some of the university's buildings, such as the Rectorate in Via Balbi 5 or the Department of Literature, all rich in history and valuable statues and frescoes, can be visited free of charge at certain times of the year during visits to the Rolli palaces.

About me

I am an Associate Professor of Physiology at the University of Genoa (Dept. of Pharmacy) and Affiliated Scientist at the Italian Institute of Technology and San Martino Hospital in Genoa.

I am also a MSCA-Alumnus and current MSCA-PF reviewer.

My team is studying neuronal plasticity at different levels (structural and functional, at the synaptic level as well as looking at intrinsic excitability) using the cerebellum as a model area, to better understand the mechanisms used in this circuit to encode information and memory. We also investigate pathological alterations of the structure and function of this circuit in brain diseases such as multiple sclerosisautism and other neuropathologies.
