About

The group “Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Lab (BMRL)” led by Dr. María Luisa García-Martín at the Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Málaga y Plataforma en Nanomedicina (IBIMA-Plataforma BIONAND), Málaga (Spain), is interested in hosting an MSCA Fellowship. One project will be supervised by Dr. García-Martín.

Dr. García-Martín has worked in Magnetic Resonance for biomedical research since early in her career, recently expanding into nanomedicine. She obtained her Ph.D. at the "Alberto Sols" Biomedical Research Institute (CSIC/UAM), Madrid. She then joined the University of Arizona Cancer Center as Research Associate for three years, returning to Madrid as a “Ramón y Cajal” researcher, focusing on tumor microenvironment characterization using multiparametric MRI and spectroscopy.

In 2008, she became Clinical Scientist, working on advanced MRI for early cancer detection, particularly prostate cancer. In 2011, she joined BIONAND (now part of IBIMA-Plataforma BIONAND) as Group Leader of BMRL, where she also coordinates the Nondiagnostics Area. She heads the NanoImaging Unit, a multimodal platform accredited as ICTS within NANBIOSIS. From 2014 to 2019, she was Scientific Deputy Director of BIONAND.

Her research focuses on: i) magnetic nanoparticles and nanosystems for cancer theranostics; ii) tumor microenvironment in preclinical models, mainly brain tumors; iii) metabolic biomarkers for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases via NMR metabolomics. She has 108 publications, 4925 citations (2537 since 2021), and 3 patents; participated in 22 projects (leading 10). She has mentored postdocs (including MSCA fellows), supervised 2 PhDs, 7 master's theses, and 5 Erasmus+ students, and participated in 2 COST Actions (BM1304, 2013-2017; CA18206, 2019-2024) and 3 national research networks (RED2022-134299-T, RED2022-134685-I, RED2024-154146-I).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Required education level: a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Chemical Sciences, Chemical Technology, Nanomedicine, or Pharmacy would be preferable. However, we are also open to considering individuals with expertise in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Biological Sciences.

Main research field: Nanotechnology (preferable) or Biomedicine.

Sub research field: Nanomedicine (preferable) or Preclinical and Translational Medicine.

Language: English, Spanish

Skills: experience in the synthesis, functionalization, and physicochemical characterization of nanoparticles (preferably magnetic nanoparticles) is desirable. Alternatively, candidates with strong expertise in the biological application of nanomaterials, including in vitro cell studies and in vivo preclinical models, will also be considered. Experience in data analysis and statistical methods is also valued.
