Doctoral training in mechanistic and data-driven design of selective membrane systems

Zakhar Maletskyi

Associate Professor - Membrane Science & Technology at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)

Ås, Norway

About

MemLab www.memlab.no at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences is interested in joining or co-developing an MSCA Doctoral Network on the mechanistic and data-driven design of selective membrane systems.

The proposed research and training area connects membrane materials, interfacial science, electrochemistry, multicomponent transport and data science. Doctoral projects could investigate how pore structure, surface charge, confinement, concentration polarisation and solution chemistry determine selectivity and productivity, and how these relations can guide membrane or process design. Application cases may include critical-ion separation, micropollutant treatment, resource-efficient industrial separations and adaptive water treatment.

MemLab can contribute doctoral supervision, membrane-process experiments, quantitative transport analysis, designed experiments and machine-learning-based performance modelling. NMBU can host doctoral candidates subject to the agreed network structure and institutional approval. We can also contribute training in water and separation engineering, research methods and translation from mechanism to process performance.
