About

Our clinical research group is interested in joining Horizon Europe consortia developing innovative healthcare interventions for adults at increased risk of chronic multimorbidity or already living with multiple non-communicable diseases.

Our primary research interest is patients in whom hypertension, obesity, metabolic dysfunction, chronic kidney disease and osteoarthritis coexist or progressively develop during ageing. These conditions frequently cluster in the same individual, accelerate functional decline and substantially increase the burden on healthcare systems. Nevertheless, they are still predominantly managed within separate clinical specialties.

We are interested in developing integrated and personalised strategies for the early identification, risk stratification and management of adults with overlapping cardiorenal, metabolic and musculoskeletal disorders. Our work focuses on identifying modifiable behavioural, lifestyle and clinical determinants that contribute to disease progression and on translating this knowledge into feasible interventions that can be implemented in routine healthcare.

Our expertise combines internal medicine, cardiovascular prevention, chronobiology, lifestyle medicine and behavioural epidemiology. We are particularly interested in the contribution of sleep and circadian disruption, physical inactivity, nutrition, obesity, treatment adherence and other modifiable factors to the progression of multimorbidity and functional decline.

Our team can contribute as a clinical research site through recruitment of adults with hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease, metabolic disorders and osteoarthritis; comprehensive clinical phenotyping; ambulatory blood pressure monitoring; assessment of sleep, circadian health and lifestyle; evaluation of patient-reported outcomes; and implementation of preventive interventions in real-world clinical practice.

We welcome collaboration with partners in cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, rheumatology, rehabilitation, public health, digital health, artificial intelligence and implementation science to develop scalable, patient-centred healthcare solutions for adults living with complex chronic diseases.
