Ethnographer of Shrinking Rural Regions and Local Rituals

Ben Grafstrom

PhD Teaching and Research Fellow at University of Oslo

Oslo, Norway

About

My ethnographic research encompases ritual studies, rural regions, and the type of social change that is brought about by demographic shifts.

Themes of my research include Material culture, Identity and belonging, Ritual and religion, Migration and mobility, and Kinship and social organization.

My research has taken me to rural coastal communities, mountain communities, and low land agricultural communities.

Although my work mostly falls into the humanities and cultural anthropology, I would be very much at home in collaborating with earth scientists or those studying fishing, forestry, and agriculture.
