About

I am a Researcher at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal), working at the Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA) and the Institute of Science and Innovation for Bio-Sustainability (IB-S).

My research is highly interdisciplinary, bridging materials science, nanotechnology, microbiology, environmental engineering, and additive manufacturing. I develop advanced materials and technologies for environmental remediation and monitoring, with a particular focus on water treatment and contaminants of emerging concern.

Current research activities include the development of multifunctional membranes, photocatalytic materials, bio-based systems, sensing platforms, and 3D-printed structures for pollutant removal and environmental monitoring. Target contaminants include PFAS, antibiotics, pharmaceutical residues, heavy metals, arsenic, chromium, and other persistent pollutants affecting aquatic ecosystems.

The group offers expertise in advanced materials synthesis and processing, membrane technologies, photocatalysis, nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), environmental biotechnology, ecotoxicology, sensing technologies, and additive manufacturing. We have access to extensive characterisation facilities and experience in translating fundamental research into environmental applications.

I maintain active international collaborations with research groups and institutions in Germany, Spain, China, Algeria, and Portugal, including partnerships with universities, research centres, and industrial stakeholders. Ongoing activities include participation in and coordination of national and European projects, such as Horizon Europe and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.

I am interested in joining Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks that address environmental sustainability, advanced materials, water remediation, environmental monitoring, biotechnology, the circular economy, and innovative technologies to tackle global environmental challenges.
