MSCA DN 2025: Jewish Cultural Heritage
About
I am seeking academic and sectoral partners to join a consortium which I am leading for an MSCA DN application focused on Jewish Cultural Heritage. The project will approach Jewish cultural material and immaterial heritage as a crystallisation of contentious European political histories. It will consider heritage in the light of rising nationalisms across Europe and globally, new forms of imperial expansion, antidemocratic and anti-European movements, and postcolonial urban entanglements. The network will pay particular attention to heritage in the peripheries (e.g. outside urban centres, in the Balkans, Sephardi/Mizrahi heritage in Europe, post-communist states, at points where Jewish heritage intersects with or is in contention with other cultural heritages).
We recognise that Jewish heritage cannot be addressed in isolation. To research it and to consider its present-day challenges and value, it is necessary to consider European culture relationally: relations between various cultural and between various religious groupings; relations between nation states, including with their redrawn boundaries; and relations between imperial formations, both defunct and emerging.
Excellent partners are sought from university and the heritage sector (e.g. museums, archives, heritage site or tourism organisations, Jewish communities, oral history collections) , especially those outside the UK. Should have established record in heritage studies.
