About

The National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest is a Romanian public research organisation with extensive expertise in the design, development, integration and validation of advanced digital solutions, including AI-enabled digital health platforms, IoT/IoMT systems, data-driven services and interoperable software infrastructures.

ICI Bucharest combines strong ICT research capabilities with hands-on experience in developing integrated digital health solutions and can contribute to UNITE consortia from technology design and AI development to system integration, interoperability, testing and technical validation.

Our key capabilities relevant to digital health include:

  • AI and advanced data analytics – machine learning, predictive and adaptive models, multimodal data analysis, intelligent decision-support and explainable AI approaches supporting healthcare professionals and personalised services;

  • Digital health platforms and end-to-end software solutions – modular architectures, backend services, APIs, web-based applications, data management and analytics components, dashboards and role-based interfaces;

  • IoT/IoMT and remote monitoring – integration of connected medical and non-medical devices, sensors and wearable technologies, acquisition of heterogeneous health-related data and edge-to-cloud data flows;

  • Interoperability, health data integration and governance – integration of heterogeneous data sources, interoperable architectures and services, FHIR-oriented approaches, EHDS-related requirements, secure data exchange, cybersecurity, privacy, GDPR and ethics-by-design;

  • Digital tools supporting healthcare professionals and service delivery – intelligent data processing, decision-support, automation of data-intensive processes and digital services with the potential to reduce workload, improve workflows and support more efficient use of healthcare resources;

  • Inclusive and accessible digital healthcare – technologies enabling remote access, continuous monitoring and digitally supported care, with potential application to ageing populations, people with chronic conditions and populations facing geographical or other barriers to healthcare access;

  • Integration, testing and validation – integration of heterogeneous technological components, definition of technical validation scenarios and indicators, usability and performance evaluation, and testing of integrated solutions in relevant environments and support for real-world validation.

ICI Bucharest has experience in multidisciplinary R&D at the intersection of ICT, artificial intelligence, data science, connected technologies and digital health, including solutions addressing remote and multimodal monitoring, personalised data-driven services, predictive analytics and secure management of health-related information.

Within a European consortium, ICI Bucharest can act as a research and technology partner, contributing advanced ICT expertise and taking responsibility for activities such as AI and analytics development, digital platform and software development, interoperability, IoT/IoMT integration, system architecture, integration of technological components, data management and technical validation.

We are particularly interested in collaborating with healthcare providers and other end-user organisations, innovative SMEs and technology providers, universities and research organisations, living labs and testbeds, and regional innovation actors to develop and validate scalable digital health solutions across European regions.

We are open to partnerships addressing challenges such as equitable access to healthcare, more efficient and sustainable healthcare delivery, support for healthcare professionals, personalised and remote care, health data interoperability and the European Health Data Space, particularly where ICI Bucharest's technological capabilities can complement clinical, organisational and market expertise provided by other consortium partners.

We are interested in joining ambitious interregional projects in which complementary technologies and expertise can be integrated, tested and demonstrated in real-world healthcare settings, with a clear pathway towards adoption, scalability and sustainable deployment across European regions
