About
The International Airport of Heraklion Crete SA (IAHC), a new-generation bioclimatic airport infrastructure designed to serve as a climate-resilient and digitally enabled multimodal hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Strategically located in one of Europe’s most dynamic tourism regions, the airport integrates renewable energy systems, smart operational technologies, circular resource management principles, and advanced passenger flow solutions. The facility represents a real-scale environment for testing and validating innovative solutions in sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, digital transformation and visitor management.
IAHC, currently under development, is open to participating in collaborative European initiatives where large-scale infrastructure can function as a pilot or demonstration site for smart tourism systems, green transition technologies, multimodal mobility integration, climate-neutral operations and AI-enabled optimisation tools. The airport offers a unique combination of operational complexity, high seasonal tourism demand and strong regional integration, creating valuable conditions for experimentation, validation and impact-oriented innovation activities.
