PFAS Destruction Across Different Water Matrices — Seeking Horizon Europe Partners

Technology Strategy & EU R&D Partnerships Lead at FIDCHEM

Spain

About

We are building a collaborative European R&D project focused on actual PFAS destruction rather than simply capturing PFAS and transferring the contamination into filters, sorbents or other secondary waste streams.

FIDCHEM has access to several complementary PFAS treatment technologies, allowing different approaches to be selected or combined depending on water matrix, PFAS profile and concentration, flow rate, energy requirements and operating conditions. Technologies have undergone validation and are progressing into pilot applications.

Proposed project scope

The project would demonstrate PFAS destruction across several representative water matrices and real operating environments, potentially including:

• industrial wastewater
• municipal wastewater and water reuse
• drinking-water treatment
• contaminated groundwater
• landfill leachate and highly concentrated streams

Activities may include analytical characterisation, technology optimisation, pilot-scale engineering, real-site demonstration, measurement of destruction efficiency and transformation products, energy and resource optimisation, environmental assessment and techno-economic evaluation.

The objective is not to promote a single “one-size-fits-all” technology, but to develop and validate a portfolio of scalable treatment approaches capable of addressing different PFAS contamination scenarios.

Partners sought

We are particularly interested in:

• experienced Horizon Europe coordinator
• universities and RTOs specialising in PFAS, water treatment and environmental chemistry
• laboratories with advanced PFAS analytical capabilities, particularly LC-MS/MS
• water utilities and wastewater operators
• industrial sites with PFAS-contaminated water streams
• landfill/leachate operators
• municipalities and public water authorities
• process engineering and scale-up partners
• environmental assessment, LCA and techno-economic expertise
• monitoring, sensors and digital process-optimisation partners

FIDCHEM can contribute PFAS destruction technologies, engineering know-how, technology adaptation and pilot-scale development.

We are open both to building a new consortium around this concept and joining an existing Horizon Europe consortium where PFAS destruction, treatment engineering or demonstration capability is required.
