Let’s Collaborate, Let’s Insulate: Scaling Circular Bio-Insulation from Agricultural Waste
About
Let’s Collaborate, Let’s Insulate: Scaling Circular Bio-Insulation from Agricultural Waste_ is a cross-sector collaboration led by AGREKA Build, a UK clean-tech startup developing WHEATEX™ — a sustainable, binder-free insulation board made entirely from agricultural waste wheat straw.
WHEATEX™ is designed for breathable, low-carbon construction and retrofit applications. It offers a natural alternative to plastic-based insulation, cutting embodied carbon by up to 80% while creating new revenue streams for regenerative wheat farmers. Our goal is to support decentralised manufacturing, healthier homes, and a resilient rural-urban circular economy.
We’re looking for partners to help us:
-
Pilot and demonstrate WHEATEX in social housing, retrofit, and modular buildings
-
Support certification and performance testing (such as EPD, REI fire, CE/UKCA/ETA)
-
Process engineering & industrial scale-up using advanced manufacturing & automation
-
Co-develop circular supply chains and regenerative procurement models
-
Support market entry, policy alignment and digital fabrication initiatives
Current Status:
We are supported by Innovate UK and are setting up our pilot manufacturing line in Cheshire. Certification is underway and we are actively seeking European demonstration projects, technical collaborators and early adopters.
Relevant Themes:
-
Built4People & Cluster 5 (Climate-neutral, circular, and digitised buildings)
-
Circular bioeconomy & regenerative materials
-
New European Bauhaus alignment
-
Low-carbon construction & rural-urban transitions
Let’s co-create a healthier built environment that works for people and planet.
