About

Project Title: BIO-THERM-NEB: Frugal Bio-Structural Retrofitting for Passive Building Cooling & Heritage Preservation

Target Topic: HORIZON-NEB-2026-01-REGEN-01 (HORIZON-IA)

Consortium Core: The existing consortium is led by the University of Life Sciences in Warsaw -SGGW (Coordinator, PL), plus partners come from Spain, Poland, Denmark, France.

Project Pitch: BIO-THERM-NEB replaces energy-intensive AC in dense European cities with a patented, nature-based bio-structural solution (frugal innovation).

Using the Panel Modular System (PMS)—a modular hardware with 6 combinable geometric shapes (flat vertical, flat sloped, barrel vaulted, spherical, cylindrical and sloped)—we deliver non-invasive building envelope retrofitting and shading for adjacent spaces (patios, historic courtyards, narrow passages) which is a combination of a free-standing structure and local vegetation.  Designed for non-destructive assembly/disassembly (Design for Disassembly), the system will be deployed on a historic cultural heritage building in the chosen cities of South of Europe.

Looking for France/Italy/Greece/Spain/Turkey partners to implement pilot configuration of PMS system variants in one structure to protect historic walls without drilling or structural alteration.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Primary KPI: 10–15% indoor cooling energy demand reduction in adjacent interiors.

  • 12–18°C drop in building envelope surface temperatures.

  • 3–5°C reduction in perceived outdoor heat
    stress (UTCI/PET).

  • >25% rainwater retention & 40–50% irrigation water savings.

  • depending on the needs, it is possible to increase the humidity level by approximately 20-30% inside the PMS structures

**
We Are Looking For:**

  1. Southern/Continental Municipalities + Local Universities: Pilot cities (e.g., France/Italy/Spain/Greece/Turkey) backed by a local research partner for sensor data collection.

  2. Social Sciences & Environmental Psychology Partner: Expertise in biophilic health impacts, well-being, perceived heat stress, and MISS® stakeholder mapping (e.g., AIT / NEB Hub network).

  3. Leading RTO / Economic Analysis Partner: Expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) to prove PMS carbon/financial advantages over traditional AC.
