How to enable merchants to seamlessly accept multiple public and private digital identity wallets

Head of Business Development & Innovation MeTS Iberia at Worldline

About

By 2027, European merchants will face a critical challenge: accepting an expanding ecosystem of identity wallets—European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) variants across EU member states, private wallets, and international identity solutions. Without a unified approach, this will fragment merchant experiences and fragment acceptance capabilities.

Worldline will provide its Digital Identity Hub, a platform designed to bridge Relying Parties (merchants, financial institutions, service providers) and digital identity Wallet Issuers (public EUDIW implementations, private wallet providers).

We want to explore how startups and technology providers can help us simplify the Relying Party onboarding journey and provide a frictionless User Experience for the customer/citizen. How to design Artificial Intelligence agent in the Digital Identity Wallet that understands user preferences and context (identity attributes, constraints, value) and recommends personalized experience by keeping user’s privacy.

Market sectors targeted: Gambling with Age Control. Buy age restricted goods like alcohol.  Travel with discounted prices according to specific traveler’s profile thanks to the Verifiable Credentials/VC in the Wallet. Hotel check-in/out. Car sector: Car rental/Car sharing using mobile Driver Licence. Car insurance using mobile Vehicle Registration Certificate. Car Wallet with Ownership hold as a VC into the EUDIW.

Key technologies involved: Digital Identity Wallet, User Experience Design, KYC/KYB, Merchant digital onboarding, Business Wallet, Electronic Attestation of Attributes, Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Agent Orchestration. Digital Key for Car/Hotel. Identity of Agent.

Type of callaborations: Proof of concept/pilot testing, Client-provider collaboration (commercial agreement), potentially pilots in the Digital Identity Wallet Consortia (APTITUDE, WEBUILD, mDL).
