AGROTWIN-DN: AI-powered Digital Twin for Climate-Smart Agriculture and Carbon Management
Research Engineer at Kırklareli Ataturk Soil Water and Agricultural Meteorology Research Instıtute
Kirklareli, Türkiye
About
Agriculture is facing unprecedented challenges due to climate change, water scarcity, greenhouse gas emissions and increasing pressure to improve productivity while reducing environmental impacts. Although large amounts of satellite, UAV, weather and field data are available, they remain fragmented and are rarely transformed into operational decision-support systems.
The platform will integrate Earth Observation, remote sensing, IoT sensors, GIS, climate models, greenhouse gas monitoring, carbon accounting and advanced AI to create dynamic digital replicas of farms and agricultural landscapes.
The Digital Twin will support:
-
climate adaptation and resilience
-
agricultural carbon management
-
carbon credit MRV systems
-
soil and water management
-
crop growth and yield prediction
-
climate risk assessment
-
biodiversity indicators
-
sustainable land-use planning
-
policy scenario simulations
-
AI-based decision support for farmers and policymakers
The network will train doctoral researchers across agriculture, environmental sciences, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, computer science, climate science and data engineering while promoting strong collaboration between academia, research institutes, public authorities and industry.
The ambition is to create a scalable European Digital Agriculture Twin framework that contributes to the European Green Deal, Climate Adaptation Mission, Digital Europe and the transition towards climate-neutral and resilient farming systems.
