About
UCA leads the “CAMPUS DE EXCELENCIA INTERNACIONAL DEL MAR” (CEIMAR), a campus whose mission is to become an international reference in teaching and research in marine themes including the Science, Engineering and Humanities (a strategic alliance of universities, research centres, science and technology parks and innovative companies of the South of Spain, Portugal and the North of Morroco). UCA is the coordinator of the European University of the SEAS (SEA-EU), an alliance of 9 European Universities (UCA (Spain), Bretagne Occidentale in Brest (France), Kiel (Germany), Gdansk (Poland), Split (Crotia), Malta), University of Parthenope (Italy), the University of Algarve (Portugal) and the university of Nord (Norway). UCA has outstanding libraries, rated among the best in the country and with the seal of quality of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ANECA). One of the core future challenges faced by the UCA is adapting new technologies to education.
University of Cádiz provides an outstanding intellectual and technical environment. Of particular interest to the "Cluster 1: Health" are the central services for biomedicine including the following equipment: The Fluorescence Microscopy unit with the latest confocal microscope (Zeiss LSM 900 Airyscam 2), the Flow Cytometry unit (including a MoFlo Astrios sorter and several analyzers) and the cell culture facility with equipment dedicated to primary cell culture. In addition, there is available IT service, administrative and project management support, tech and transfer office and a bioethics committee. Researchers have free access to journals and seminars-lectures rooms and count with personnel dedicated to the support of European funded research applications, including grant agreements, and reporting. Besides, we can offer the facilities and infrastructure of INBIO (Biomolecules research institute) and of INiBICA-Fundación de la gestión biomédica (Biomedical innovation and research institute managed by the biomedical research foundation from Cádiz).
Previous and current involvement in EU-funded research and training programmes/actions/projects:
Under the FP7, UCA participated in 13 projects: 6 as coordinator and 7 as a partner. 6 MSCA (USEABLE, BADEPAS, ADMIENV, NITRICOS, LOCUS COERULEUS- PAIN, NEUROBASS), and the rest regarding Environment (MICORE), SME (TidalSense Demo and NOO2), NMP (CERAWATER), SPACE (FAST) and Infrastructures (ESTEEM 2). We had executed 1 CIP_ICT: open Discovery space and one project of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme. In addition, 3 Leonardo and 1 Comenius projects have also been executed. We have also developed 25 Interreg Projects. Over the past few years UCA has attracted over 10,000 Erasmus students. National Training Programmes: JDC, FPU and FPI fellowships.
UCA has participated in 24 H2020 projects and currently participates in 13 Horizon Europe Projects, 6 in Pillar II, 6 in MSCA programme ( 3 of them MSCA-PF, 1 MSCA-DN and 2 MSCA-Staff Exchange) and 1 EIC Pathfinder Open in Health Field. In addition, UCA participates in European projects of other calls as LIFE, EU4Health, PRIMA and Interreg.
