About

The BETA Technological Centre, part of the Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC), specialises in the sustainable development of society through research and innovation. Within HORIZON-MISS-2026-05-SOIL-02, BETA’s Applied Ecology & Global Change unit contributes specialised expertise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) analysis through a water-centred perspective that directly supports soil protection and soil health objectives. The unit applies advanced molecular and ecological methods to detect and characterise AMR genes and microbial communities in water matrices that interact with soils, including irrigation water, runoff, leachates, and sediments. This work enables the identification of key transmission pathways through which AMR reaches agricultural soils and spreads across landscapes under different land-use and management conditions. By integrating water-based AMR monitoring with environmental pressure analysis and land-management contexts, the unit supports the development of indicators, early-warning systems, and prevention strategies aimed at reducing AMR risks in soils and safeguarding ecosystem and human health.
