MISS-2026-05-SOIL-01-two-stage: Bioregional Living Labs for Forest Resilience: A Quintuple Helix Approach
Founder and Network Weaver at Korowód Bioregional Center
Wrocław, Poland
About
We are forming a consortium for the HORIZON-MISS-2026-SOIL-01 call, led by Mendel University (Czech Republic). Our project establishes a network of Bioregional Living Labs (BLLs) in the Continental (CZ), Montane (PL - Sudeten Mountains), Boreal (LT) and Atlantic (FR) regions. We are currently seeking strategic horizontal partners and BLL specific partners in our 5 respective country specific BLLs in particular SMEs, NGOs, national media and tech.
Our Methodology
Our approach moves beyond traditional silviculture by placing Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) at the foundation. We utilize the Quintuple Helix model to integrate academia, industry, government, culture, and the environment into a cohesive governance structure.
Key Innovative Pillars:
-
The Meso-Level Bioregional Approach: We analyze the bioregion focusing on tributaries of larger watersheds by mapping the historical trajectory of forest land use. By understanding how past management created the current soil and biomass state, we better calibrate models for future climate scenarios.
-
Soil Biota: Microbiolgical soil mapping of biota for biotechnology and pharmaceutical development
-
Multi-Actor Approach (MAA): Ensuring genuine co-creation between forest owners, NGOs, and local communities.
-
Bioregional Mapping & Finance: We implement spatial bioregional mapping to identify ecosystem service flows and establish Bioregional Finance Facilities to de-risk long-term landscape restoration.
-
Integrated Landscape Approach: We facilitate the creation of Landscape Partnerships that align regional economic development with the Mission Soil objectives.
-
SSH partners including historians, anthropologists, sociologists, artists, ethnobotanists etc
