InKnowCom Foundation: Driving Regenerative Rural Innovation and Soil Health through Co-Creation in a Living Lab
The InKnowCom Foundation is a pioneering organization dedicated to advancing sustainable rural development by integrating regenerative innovation with participatory approaches rooted in co-creation. Our mission is to translate scientific knowledge, traditional farming practices, and citizen expertise into practical solutions that enhance soil health, crop productivity, and human well-being. By bridging research, practice, and community engagement, InKnowCom fosters a resilient, knowledge-driven rural ecosystem capable of addressing modern agricultural and environmental challenges.
Central to our approach is co-creation and farmer traditional knowledge and citizen science. Sustainable solutions emerge when diverse stakeholders collaborate, combining rigorous scientific methods with the experiential and traditional knowledge of farmers. Citizen science initiatives enable students, residents, and practitioners to participate actively in research, strengthening local knowledge networks and fostering shared responsibility for soil stewardship and ecological health.
A key instrument is our 15-hectare Living Lab, a demonstration site and testing ground for regenerative approaches. The Lab serves as an interactive platform where innovative techniques, agroecological practices, and soil restoration strategies are trialed and showcased. Stakeholders—including farmers, researchers, students, and policymakers—can observe, participate, and learn from practical applications. The Lab is more than a demonstration site; it is a collaborative hub where knowledge is exchanged, innovations refined, and sustainable practices validated for replication elsewhere.
InKnowCom focuses on soil health, crop resilience, and human well-being. We prioritize soil restoration and fertility management to reverse degradation, enhance carbon sequestration, and improve water retention. Crop management practices are co-developed with local farmers to ensure regenerative approaches are economically viable, ecologically sound, and socially acceptable. Human health considerations are integrated, recognizing that nutrient-rich soils and diversified agroecosystems contribute to healthier food systems and communities.
The co-creation methodology is central to our impact. Stakeholders are involved at every stage, from identifying research questions to evaluating outcomes, ensuring solutions are locally adapted, feasible, and culturally sensitive. Engaging scientists, farmers, students, and policymakers fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-level knowledge networks extending beyond the Living Lab. Our activities contribute to the EU Soil Mission by supporting degraded soil restoration, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting regenerative land management systems.
The Living Lab functions as a demonstration and training facility. Farmers gain practical insights into soil improvement, crop diversification, and integrated pest management. Students and young researchers gain hands-on experience in field experimentation, data collection, and co-creative research design. Scientists and extension agents collaborate with practitioners to test innovations under real farming conditions, generating actionable knowledge to inform policy, research, and rural development strategies. By combining demonstration, experimentation, and participatory learning, the Lab cultivates a knowledge exchange ecosystem essential for scaling regenerative practices across Europe.
InKnowCom’s commitment extends beyond the Living Lab. The foundation engages in knowledge dissemination, contributing to EU, national, and regional discussions on soil health, regenerative agriculture, and rural innovation. Our evidence-based and participatory methods demonstrate how co-created solutions accelerate adoption of regenerative land management while enhancing economic resilience and community engagement.
