Selba is a Swiss niche player combining 75 years of experience in high-precision photolithography and glass machining. We design and manufacture incremental and absolute encoder discs, as well as linear scales, on soda-lime, quartz, Borofloat and D263 glass substrates, with engraved line widths down to 2 μm. Glass encoder discs are our flagship product: the dimensional stability and extreme-temperature resistance of optical glass and quartz make them fully suited to the most critical applications, particularly in the space and aerospace sectors.

We also produce high-resolution photomasks on glass or quartz, used in high-technology fields such as microelectronics, bioelectronics, medical research and aerospace. Our glass machining department runs machines we designed and developed entirely in-house, giving us full command of our processes and consistent quality, including on extremely thin glass (down to 0.1 mm). Every single product leaving our factory is inspected by hand.

We innovate continuously, currently developing prototype discs and scales in high-grade aluminium (0.2 mm thick) for ever more demanding industrial applications. Our human scale and our know-how let us adapt quickly to each customer's specific needs, in small batches as well as in high volumes.
