E1 — Wearable multimodal EEG headset with real-time artifact correction
CEO at Elephant Brain Lab srl

About
The problem
Quantitative EEG remains confined to shielded laboratories. Wet electrodes require lengthy preparation, and movement artifacts corrupt recordings as soon as the subject leaves a controlled setting. This limits electrophysiology to short, artificial sessions that poorly represent real-world brain function.
The product
E1 is a wearable multimodal headset built around three design choices:
-
32-channel dry EEG. Ag/AgCl-coated polymer electrodes require no gel and no skin preparation, with setup in minutes rather than tens of minutes. Electrode technology developed with TU Ilmenau and peer-reviewed (Warsito et al., Scientific Reports 2023).
-
Periocular sensing. Eight dedicated electrodes capture ocular and facial activity at the source, enabling principled removal of blink and saccade artifacts rather than blind statistical correction.
-
Autonomic channels. PPG, electrodermal activity and skin temperature are acquired synchronously with EEG, allowing central and peripheral nervous system activity to be interpreted together.
Real-time processing
Our proprietary EL-RAC pipeline runs on-board on embedded hardware, correcting motion and physiological artifacts as data is acquired. A physiological gate preserves genuine neural signals — eyes-closed alpha, drowsy theta — that conventional artifact rejection typically discards. Output is clean, analysis-ready electrophysiology, not raw data requiring hours of offline cleaning.
Platform
The device is complemented by an AI assistant supporting qEEG interpretation, report generation and protocol design, by immersive XR environments for guided training, and by a normative qEEG database built on harmonised multi-site reference datasets, currently in development.
Applications
Neurofeedback and clinical assessment, cognitive and mental workload monitoring, remote patient follow-up, sport and high-performance training, occupational wellbeing.
Status
Prototype in advanced development. Integrated device architecture protected by Italian patent IT102025000015982 with international PCT filing (2026). Developed with TU Ilmenau, University of Naples Federico II (CIRMIS/ARHeMLab), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and OT Bioelettronica.
Currently supplied for research and non-medical applications; a separate CE MDR pathway is under development for the clinical configuration.
We are looking for distributors and commercial partners in medtech and digital health, clinical sites for validation studies and pilot projects, and research groups interested in early access.
