Minimal and open-source SysML v2 library models for space

- Library models
An open-source SysMLv2 library consisting of space models will be presented. Models in the library are tool-agnostic. The models provide a foundation and starting point for developing systems models for space. Inputs to the definition of needs and a collection of preliminary model contents for this minimal model will be collected in a set of short workshops (i.e., slots during MB4SE AG meetings) prior to the actual MBSE2025 event. This way, the practical part can start on a set of consolidated assumptions and a clear target.
The system model elements will consist, e.g., of state machines for behavior modeling, constraints for formalization of desired behavior, and parts as reusable functional units of systems and as a means to compose systems of systems. The library and its current capabilities will be presented and available on any provided and chosen tool.
A practical exercise shall be executed based on a real-world use case, which is the development of a library usable to create “minimal models,” especially targeting the early development phases of a space mission project. Particularly in these project phases, personnel resources are limited and schedules are tight while they must lay the foundation for a successful implementation, i.e., also with regard to any MBSE-related activities.
The clear definition and provision of a minimal model focuses on artefacts that directly provide benefit to the early project phase and a solid foundation that can be extended towards later phases. This may go hand in hand with the definition of a framework for expected deliveries/views to be produced.
After the practical exercise, future collaborations and extension of the library will be discussed with the audience for the continuous development of desired space models.
