About
The International Research Center in Critical Raw Materials for Advanced Industrial Technologies (ICCRAM), based at the University of Burgos (Spain), is a multidisciplinary center of excellence at the forefront of sustainable innovation. ICCRAM leads pioneering research in Environment, Sustainability and Toxicology (EST), focusing on environmental and health risk assessment, sustainability evaluation (LCA, LCC, S-LCA), Safe- and Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) methodologies, and the development of nature-based and circular solutions. Its EST unit is actively involved in international initiatives on advanced materials safety, regulatory science, and green innovation.
Beyond EST, ICCRAM hosts complementary research lines in nanomaterials and advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and computational modeling, critical raw materials, and policy and societal engagement, facilitating interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable development. The center also participates in strategic European research platforms (e.g., H2020, Horizon Europe, EIT RawMaterials), acting as a key player in several international networks on materials safety, sustainability, and responsible innovation.
ICCRAM provides scientific and technological support to industry, policymakers, and academia, contributing to evidence-based regulation, industrial transformation, and the Green Deal agenda. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a strong commitment to open science and stakeholder engagement, ICCRAM aims to bridge research and application to foster a sustainable, resilient, and safe industrial future.
