About

The Field Crops Central Research Institute (FCCRI) is a leading national institution dedicated to advancing agricultural science, innovation, and sustainability in Türkiye. Its mission is to develop new-generation crop varieties and lines that meet market demands for yield, quality, and resilience. Through advanced plant breeding techniques and biotechnology, FCCRI enhances the resistance of crops against diseases, pests, and adverse environmental conditions, ensuring long-term agricultural stability.

The institute conducts both basic and applied research, integrating precision agriculture, mechanization, and information technologies to improve plant nutrition, pest control, and harvest efficiency. FCCRI plays a vital role in conserving biodiversity by gathering, characterizing, and cultivating microbial and plant genetic resources, while safeguarding national genetic assets in Türkiye’s Seed Gene Bank.

Research programs also focus on soil fertility and sustainable fertilization methods, ensuring optimal use of plant nutrients and soil regulators. FCCRI registers and sustains newly developed crop varieties, producing seeds at elite and original stages to strengthen national seed systems. As the central laboratory for cereal quality analysis and biotechnology characterization, the institute provides essential data and services at a national scale.

FCCRI integrates biotechnology into breeding research, performing biochemical and molecular analyses to accelerate innovation. It also conducts socio-economic studies, guiding agricultural policies and strategies with evidence-based proposals. By prioritizing national research areas, coordinating integrated projects, and publishing peer-reviewed journals, FCCRI ensures scientific excellence and knowledge dissemination.

Additionally, the institute employs remote sensing technologies to monitor field crops, estimate yields, and deliver timely reports to decision-makers. With its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, FCCRI continues to serve as a cornerstone of agricultural progress, supporting farmers, policymakers, and the scientific community in shaping the future of field crop production.
