HyCharge Off-Grid: hydrogen-powered charging for heavy-duty electric trucks in Crete

Managing Partner at Parity Platform (Parent of: EV Loader software)

Greece

About

HyCharge Off-Grid is a cooperative project idea for the IH-MIE Open Call 2026, Challenge 4 (Integration with other mobility solutions).

Challenge: Southern Crete hosts intensive heavy-truck movement linked to agriculture, food processing and aggregates in the Messara plain (Moires). The local grid lacks the capacity required to charge electric heavy trucks (150 kW to 1 MW per site), and capacity additions of this size require 2+ years to implement. Fleet operators therefore continue to procure diesel trucks.

Solution: HyCharge integrates an H2X mobile hydrogen power unit and removable H2X-T1000 tanks with a CCS2 DC charger. The EV Loader software layer controls the whole station: an edge controller (OCPP 2.0.1 to the charger, Modbus TCP/CAN to the hydrogen unit), hydrogen-aware energy management that confirms only the sessions the hydrogen on site can complete, fleet booking, metering of kWh and kg of hydrogen per session, and a tank-swap forecast.

Scope (2027): system design, hardware and software deployment, lab integration, and demonstration at an industrial site in Moires with the H2X mobile unit and heavy-duty electric trucks.

Team: Parity Platform P.C. (EV Loader, Greece), project leader and software layer; H2X (France), hydrogen power unit and hardware design.

Cooperation sought: (1) fleet operators and industrial or agricultural sites in Crete and the Greek islands, as demonstration hosts and truck operators; (2) hydrogen suppliers and logistics partners serving Crete; (3) IH-MIE pioneer SMEs under Challenge 4 (fuel cells in multipurpose electric platforms, fuel-cell range extenders for light commercial vehicles) for joint interoperability tests; (4) charger manufacturers and test laboratories for integration and qualification.
