Compact Hydrogen Energy Storage System for Low-Floor Vehicles
Founder at ZeroEmichion CR&D

About
The CH₂ESS-LF project aims to enable low-floor M1, M2, N1 and N2 vehicles through a purpose-designed compressed hydrogen storage system (CHSS). No established commercial solution currently serves these vehicle architectures; low-floor hydrogen storage remains largely limited to purpose-built M3 buses with roof mounted tanks.
The compact, modular CHSS uses the available space beneath the driver’s cabin, leaving the rear area free for a lowered floor. It targets at least 8 kg H₂ capacity, over 20% mass reduction, lower lifecycle CO₂ emissions and improved recyclability through thermoplastic Type V vessels, a lightweight frame and European-sourced components.
The project performed by BUSiness Projects, PBG Engenharia and ZeroEmichion will deliver a manufactured, vehicle-integrated and validated prototype as the basis for full certification and serial production in the next phase.
