About
CT is the most widely used and reliable medical imaging modality for visualizing patient anatomy. Its high 3D spatial resolution makes it highly effective for answering the question “Where is the disease?”. However, conventional CT falls short when it comes to answering “What is it?”, as it cannot reliably characterize or differentiate similar tissues. This critical bottleneck affects many clinical applications, particularly particle radiotherapy, where the accuracy of treatment planning depends directly on precise tissue characterization from CT data. Suboptimal treatment plans based on CT scans face insurance rejections, delaying time-sensitive treatment, leading to lower hospital utilization, and profit loss.
Recent advancements in dual-energy and photon-counting CT technology (29% CAGR) have created a space for advanced tissue characterization. Using this newly revealed potential, TissueXplorer was designed to improve the accuracy of particle therapy by accurately predicting tissue characteristics. Thereby, it maximizes the therapeutic effect while minimizing damage to healthy organs, leading to more accurate treatment plans, timely delivery of the therapy, increased equipment utilization, and thus higher profits. The solution applies to the newer generation of CT systems (40% of all devices in operation worldwide) across different vendors, and it seamlessly integrates into the existing clinical workflow.
TissueXplorer is a vision that transcends radiotherapy and provides a bright future for CT imaging. Built for radiologists and oncologists, it helps detect and quantify disease with precision—whether it’s cardiac scars, interstitial lung disease, kidney stones, or much more.
