Biodiversity footprinting and No Net Loss

About
TBFC is looking to join a consortium for HORIZON-NATURE-2027-01-02, Biodiversity benefits and impacts of clean and digital industries.
The energy transition and digital infrastructure depend on mining, land and energy, and their biodiversity impacts are routinely under-counted. Measuring them is our day job. We work with multinationals in mining, energy, agriculture and finance on:
-
Biodiversity footprinting across operations and value chains, including the minerals supply chains behind renewables, batteries and digital hardware.
-
No Net Loss / net gain and offset methodologies: setting baselines, accounting for losses and gains, and designing offsets.
-
Ecosystem condition assessment using remote sensing and existing compliance data to measure impacts on the ground over time.
-
Nature-related disclosure aligned with TNFD, CSRD/ESRS E4 and the forthcoming ISSB requirements.
What we can contribute:
-
Lead or co-lead a work package on impact metrics, footprint methods or mitigation pathways.
-
Industry case studies and engagement, especially in extractives and energy.
-
An honest view of where the metrics hold up and where they don’t.
We were a research partner in the Horizon Europe project CircHive, which is standardising biodiversity footprinting and natural capital accounting for businesses. South African organisations are eligible for Horizon Europe funding.
