About

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a leading research organisation in the Eastern Mediterranean with strong expertise in atmospheric modelling, climate science, aerosol–radiation interactions, and solar-energy research. CyI operates the region’s most advanced High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility, enabling large-scale simulations such as WRF-Chem, regional climate modelling, and satellite-based radiation analysis.

CyI’s research focuses on improving understanding of atmospheric processes, dust and aerosol impacts, and their implications for solar-energy production, air quality, and climate services. The Institute also maintains long-term atmospheric observations and participates in international networks, supporting model validation and integrated analysis.

What The Cyprus Institute Can Offer

  • Advanced atmospheric modelling capabilities (WRF-Chem, regional climate models, aerosol–radiation processes)

  • High-Performance Computing resources supporting large, multi-model simulations

  • Expertise in solar-energy assessment, including irradiance analysis and PV variability driven by aerosols and dust

  • Access to observational datasets, including national stations and regional measurement networks

  • Experience leading and contributing to Horizon Europe and international research projects

  • Support for Work Packages related to modelling, climate services, renewable energy, and data analysis

Type of Partner CyI Is Looking For

  • Research organisations, universities, or institutes working on climate science, atmospheric processes, renewable energy, or modelling

  • Consortia seeking strong modelling, data, or HPC capabilities

  • Partners interested in climate–energy interactions, dust and aerosol research, or solar-resource assessment in challenging environments

How CyI Can Contribute to Joint Projects

  • Lead or support modelling and simulation tasks

  • Provide HPC capability for computationally intensive activities

  • Perform radiation, aerosol, or solar-energy assessments

  • Help structure Work Packages in climate modelling, renewable energy, and environmental analysis

  • Support generation of scientific publications, dissemination, and open-data contributions
