About
Call
We are interested to apply for the upcoming call HORIZON-CL5-2026-03-D3-23 - AI-driven forecasting algorithms for Grid and Consumer friendly Energy Sharing – Societal Readiness pilot. A key challenge for energy communities is the optimization of collective self-consumption and to participate effectively in distributed energy systems. We propose to develop a Multi-Stakeholder Energy Community Orchestration Platform that extends proven industrial-scale AI forecasting and energy management systems to community scenarios.
Our Expertise
Fraunhofer brings comprehensive AI and forecasting expertise spanning statistical models, neural networks, ensemble methods, and foundation models, with experience in energy demand forecasting for large-scale commercial and industrial facilities. Our team has experience developing specialized and customized forecasting models as well as benchmarking state-of-the-art models. We bring knowledge from multiple successful energy forecasting projects, providing a solid technical foundation for this innovation.
Additionally, Fraunhofer is actively developing an Energy Management System software solution that builds digital twins of energy systems, incorporating all consumers, producers, and storage components with their technical specifications and operational strategies. This system currently optimizes for single stakeholders with aligned goals, minimizing cost or CO2 footprint. The core innovation we propose involves extending this proven single-stakeholder optimization to multi-stakeholder scenarios where community members might have diverse and potentially competing objectives.
Sought partners
Consortium Lead: We are seeking a partner with experience managing EU research projects, preferably an energy utility, established research institute, or energy technology company with industry connections and market access capabilities. The ideal lead partner would bring expertise in energy community development and have established relationships with demonstration sites.
Application Partners: For demonstration and validation activities, we need partners with access to existing energy communities, such as municipalities, energy cooperatives, or community energy organizations. These partners should provide diverse stakeholder environments where the developed multi-stakeholder coordination algorithms can be tested and refined under realistic conditions with actual competing interests and social dynamics.
