In the farm we have different crops such as olives, almonds and vineyards. All of them face problems from diseases but especially the vineyard from downy mildew and powdery mildew. Also, other significant problems we face is drought and heat stress for extended periods of time, and nutrient imbalances as well. The remote-rural location of the vineyard and the almond fields with the combination of climate change and labour shortages make monitoring and timely interventions more difficult.
These challenges reduce grape yield and quality, increase production costs, and lead to higher use of water, fertilizers, and plant protection products. A delayed or non-efficiently action can result in significant lower yield.
The farm is looking for smart, affordable, and scalable precision agriculture solutions that improve agronomic monitoring and support faster decision-making. Relevant technologies include drones for targeted applications, sensors for soil moisture and weather monitoring, Decision Support Systems (DSS) for disease forecasting and yield forecasting, and smartphone-based tools for real-time field observations, alerts, and vineyard management.
The goal is to improve disease and pest management, reduce unnecessary chemical applications, and lower labour dependency. By adopting digital tools and precision agriculture solutions, the vineyard can increase efficiency, improve sustainability, reduce costs, and maintain high grape quality.
