Smart-city software for urban wildlife: citizen participation, urban digital twin integration and policy co-design with municipal officers

About

We offer hands-on expertise in designing and building smart-city software where the data comes from people and the subject is living: free-roaming animals, invasive species, seasonal threats and urban flora.

Specific expertise:

  • Citizen and volunteer participation systems: role-based access for municipal staff, associations and accredited volunteers, digital accreditation cards, and data validation by trained users instead of open crowdsourcing, which the literature shows fails without clear roles and validation.

  • Urban digital twin integration: geolocated, time-stamped encounter data served to the department that can act on it (parks, public health, urban planning, civil protection), custom map layers (protected areas, schools, cadastre) uploaded once and reused everywhere, and interoperability with smart-city platforms, Darwin Core and GBIF.

  • Co-design with municipal officers: we turn public-policy needs (animal welfare law, IAS regulation, legal reporting duties, grant justification) into workflows, indicators and automated reports that technicians actually use.

  • Evidence-based analytics: home-range and sensitive-area analysis with cited scientific sources and explicit reliability levels, so decisions can be justified to third parties.

All technology is developed 100% in-house by the founding team and runs in production in 55 cities in 11 languages. We can provide this expertise as a service (analysis, architecture, development), as a component of a larger smart-city project, or as knowledge transfer to research groups and public bodies.
