Research partners in computer vision, animal biometrics, urban ecology and entomology to work on our real-world urban wildlife dataset

About
Zoometrics holds one of the largest structured datasets on community cat colonies in Europe (14,000+ animals with photos, interventions and locations, collected by 880+ trained users) and a growing dataset of encounters with other urban species: wild boar, rabbits, monk parakeet, Asian hornet, pine processionary.
We are looking for research groups in computer vision, animal biometrics, urban ecology, entomology, animal health or epidemiology to co-develop:
-
Individual re-identification of cats, and later wild boar, from field photographs (duplicate detection, movement between colonies or areas).
-
Automatic species and nest recognition from citizen photos (monk parakeet nests, Vespa velutina nests, processionary nests, hornet vs. wasp).
-
Encounter-based population and risk indicators as an alternative to static censuses (spatial capture-recapture, occupancy models, seasonal risk maps).
-
A "wildlife encounter" Smart Data Model for smart-city platforms, interoperable with Darwin Core / GBIF, starting with wild boar.
We bring real operational data, an active user base for validation and a deployed multilingual platform to integrate results into production. We can co-author proposals, provide data under agreement and host pilots in Spanish municipalities.
