60Nd’s products are based on a transformative technology that stems from ERC-funded projects. This technology relies on the conceptualization of soft multifunctional materials whose mechanical properties (such as stiffness, viscosity, etc.) and structural configuration can be modulated through external magnetic fields. The combination of theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches supports the design of cellular environments from these materials, enabling the control and transmission of mechanical forces to cells and biological tissues in a dynamic, reversible, and remote manner. Mechanical forces play a fundamental role in a wide range of biological processes, influencing tumor progression, wound healing, and embryonic development. The technology proposed by 60Nd allows for the reproduction of pathological processes in the laboratory by controlling and identifying mechanical variables and mechanisms. This is highly valuable for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, as it enables testing of compounds and drugs designed to treat various pathologies, conducting studies on biological samples in an environment that closely mimics living tissue.

About me

Ricardo de la Torre is an entrepreneur and executive specialized in deep-tech and biotechnology. He is co-founder and CEO of 60Nd, a spin-off from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid focused on the development and commercialization of NeoMag®, a patented magneto-mechanical platform that enables precise control of mechanical microenvironments for advanced mechanobiology, drug discovery, and future diagnostic applications. His work sits at the intersection of hardware, smart consumables, and data-driven software, with a strong emphasis on technology transfer from academia to industry. Ricardo has extensive experience in building and scaling science-based startups, structuring complex IP and licensing agreements, and leading multidisciplinary teams across engineering, biology, and business. He is actively involved in securing and managing national and European R&D funding, including competitive EU programs, and in defining go-to-market and investment strategies for emerging biomedical technologies.
