About
CARDIO-EV+ is an innovative translational research project aimed at developing a multimodal platform for the early detection, prediction, and personalized management of cardiovascular dysfunction and cancer therapy-related cardiotoxicity.
The project integrates extracellular vesicle (EV)-based biomarkers, molecular markers of cardiovascular and cellular stress, gut microbiome profiles, and artificial intelligence to generate dynamic predictive models of cardiovascular risk. Our research program has already developed and validated EV-based biomarker signatures with promising diagnostic and predictive performance in clinical cohorts, providing a strong foundation for further technology development and clinical validation.
CARDIO-EV+ will advance these discoveries toward a scalable and clinically applicable diagnostic and predictive platform. The project will involve analytical and clinical validation of EV biomarkers, characterization of tumor- and treatment-associated molecular signals, integration of multimodal biological data, and development of AI-based algorithms capable of identifying patients at increased risk of cardiovascular dysfunction before clinically overt disease develops.
A particular application will be the early prediction of cardiotoxicity in patients receiving anticancer therapies, including anthracyclines, HER2-targeted therapies, anti-angiogenic agents, proteasome inhibitors, and immune checkpoint inhibitors. The platform is intended to complement conventional clinical parameters and established biomarkers by providing a multidimensional and dynamic assessment of cardiovascular vulnerability.
Through CORFO–EUREKA, CiiB UANDES seeks a Canadian technology or industry partner with complementary expertise in diagnostic platforms, biosensors, extracellular vesicle technologies, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, digital health, clinical diagnostics, or regulatory and commercialization pathways.
The Chilean–Canadian collaboration would combine CiiB's expertise in translational cardiovascular research, EV biology, biomarker discovery, and clinical validation with the partner's technological development and commercialization capabilities. Joint activities could include assay optimization and scaling, integration of multimodal datasets, AI model development, analytical and clinical validation, prototype development, intellectual property generation, and preparation for regulatory approval and market entry.
The ultimate objective is to advance CARDIO-EV+ toward a clinically validated, scalable, and commercially viable precision medicine platform capable of identifying cardiovascular risk earlier and supporting personalized therapeutic decisions.
